Workspace

Members & roles

Invite teammates, change their role, deactivate or reactivate members without losing their history, and transfer ownership.

Manage who's in your workspace from Settings → Members.

Inviting people

Click Invite member, enter their email and pick a role. They get an email with a link to join. New people set their name and a password; people who already have a Deckbell account sign in with a code. Invitations expire after 3 days, and you can cancel a pending one from the Pending invitations list.

When someone joins, each existing teammate gets a direct message with a "joined" card and a one-click Send welcome message button.

Roles

Each member has a role (Owner, Admin or Member) that decides what they can manage. Change a role from the dropdown next to their name:

  • The owner can change anyone's role.
  • Admins can change the role of Members, including making them Admins, but not of other Admins or the owner.
  • The owner's role can't be changed here.

Deactivating a member

Deactivate someone who has left your team, Slack-style, instead of deleting them. Click the deactivate icon next to their name and confirm.

  • They lose access to the workspace straight away: its projects, issues, channels and direct messages. If they were in a huddle, they're dropped from it.
  • Their history stays. Messages, comments and issues they wrote keep their name. Direct messages with them stay in your sidebar, greyed out, with a Deactivated label. You can read them but can't send new messages.
  • They no longer appear in the people picker, @-mentions or the members list. They're listed under Deactivated members instead.

Who can deactivate whom. Admins can deactivate (and reactivate) Members. Only the workspace owner can deactivate Admins. The owner can't be deactivated, and you can't deactivate yourself; use Leave to leave a workspace.

Reactivating a member

Under Deactivated members, click Reactivate to give someone their access back with the same role. Inviting a deactivated person again also reactivates them once they accept.

Transferring ownership

Each workspace has one owner, who can do everything, including billing and deleting the workspace. To hand it to someone else:

  1. Open Settings → Members.
  2. Under Transfer ownership, click Transfer ownership.
  3. Choose the new owner and confirm with your password (if you sign in with Google or an email code, there's no password to enter).

The new owner gets full control straight away, and you stay on as an admin. Only the current owner can transfer ownership, and the transfer is recorded in the workspace's audit log.
