Time tracking
Start a timer on an issue and track the time in your own Toggl Track or Harvest, with totals on the issue.
Every issue has a Time section in its sidebar with a Start timer
button. Connect your own Toggl Track or Harvest account and the timer runs
there, named after the issue (for example HRB-142 Fix invoice rounding), so
your timesheets fill themselves in. Without a time tracker, Deckbell keeps the
time itself.
Time tracking is personal: each person connects their own account, and nobody else in the workspace sees or uses it. The total on an issue adds up everyone's time.
Connect Toggl Track
- In Toggl Track, open Profile settings and copy your API Token at the bottom of the page.
- In Deckbell, open Integrations → Toggl Track and Harvest → Configure.
- Paste the token under Toggl Track and choose Connect.
If you belong to several Toggl workspaces, pick the one to track into under Projects.
Connect Harvest
Choose Sign in with Harvest if it's offered. Otherwise create a personal access token at id.getharvest.com/developers, then paste the token and the Account ID shown next to it and choose Connect.
Pick projects
Under Projects, choose where time on each Deckbell project goes:
- Toggl Track: optional. Entries without a project go to your workspace without one.
- Harvest: required, because every Harvest entry needs a project and a task. Pick both for each Deckbell project you track time on. Until you do, starting a timer on that project's issues tells you to.
Choose Save when you're done.
Start and stop a timer
Open an issue and choose Start timer in the Time section. The button shows the running time; choose it again to stop. Starting a timer on another issue stops the one that's running, just like in Toggl Track and Harvest.
The issue shows the total time tracked on it and, when several people worked on it, how much each person tracked.
Where totals come from
- Timers you start in Deckbell always count, and edits you make to them later in your tool (a corrected duration, a deleted entry) show up the next time you open the issue.
- Toggl Track: entries you log directly in Toggl Track count too when
their description contains the issue key, such as
HRB-142. - Harvest: only entries started from Deckbell are linked to the issue.
- Deckbell reads the last 90 days from your tool, at most every few minutes. If your tool can't be reached, the issue shows the last known total and a note.
Disconnect
Choose Disconnect under Integrations → Toggl Track and Harvest. Time already tracked stays in your tool and in the issue's total.
