GitLab

Show GitLab merge requests and commits on the issues they mention, on gitlab.com or your own GitLab.

Connect GitLab and every merge request or commit that mentions an issue key (like HRB-142) shows up on that issue, and stays up to date as it's reviewed and merged. It works with gitlab.com and self-managed GitLab. Open Integrations → GitLab → Configure to set it up. You need permission to manage integrations.

Connecting GitLab

There are two ways to connect:

  • Connect GitLab signs in with your gitlab.com account (where available).
  • Access token works everywhere, including self-managed GitLab. In GitLab, create a personal or group access token with the api scope, paste it into Access token, and for self-managed GitLab enter your server's address (for example https://gitlab.example.com) under GitLab URL. The address must be reachable from the internet over https://.

Deckbell acts as the account you connect, so it sees the projects that account can see. Use an account (or group token) with the Maintainer role on the projects you want to link, so Deckbell can add webhooks to them.

Linking projects

Under Projects, search for a project and choose Link. Deckbell adds a webhook to the project for merge request and push events, with its own secret token, so only GitLab can send it updates.

If GitLab doesn't let Deckbell add the webhook (for example, the account isn't a Maintainer), Deckbell shows the webhook URL and secret token once. A Maintainer can add it in the project's Settings → Webhooks with Merge request events and Push events turned on.

Unlink removes the project and its webhook. Disconnect removes GitLab from the workspace, along with the webhooks Deckbell added.

Merge requests on issues

A merge request is linked to an issue when its source branch, title or description mentions the issue's key, for example a branch named hrb-142-proration or "Fixes HRB-142" in the description. Linked merge requests appear with GitHub pull requests in the issue's right sidebar, with their number (!318) and state: open, draft, merged or closed. Click one to open it in GitLab. See Issue details.

Commits

Commits pushed to a linked project whose message mentions an issue key (for example "Round prorated amounts, refs HRB-142") are listed under Commits on that issue, with a link to the commit in GitLab.
